Jaffna Fort

Background

Jaffna Fort is a fort built by Portuguese at Jaffna, Sri Lanka in 1618 under Philip De Olivera when the Portuguese invaded Jaffna. This was captured by the Dutch under Raiclop Van Goins in 1658 and expanded it into pentagonal shape. In 1795 it was taken over by the British, and remained British garrison till 1948.

Found inside the fort was the queen’s House, the Garrison parade Ground, Police quarters and administrative buildings.

Bus Stand->Travel throughHospital road 700m-> Turn left to KKSroad (AB16) 900m-> travel along Jaffna Kayts road 200m-> Jaffna Fort.
